MANUEL CONTRERAS – Flamenco – 1973

1973, Spain. Spruce soundboard, cypress back and sides, peg tuners, golpeador, 657 scale, 51 mm nut width, lacquer finish. A wide palette of tone colors allows this guitar to sing or deliver percussive rhythms. The bass has surprising depth for a spruce and cypress guitar, with expertly balanced trebles. Volume is excellent. It appears that this instrument was used very lightly. No rasgueado marks, and it takes a hard look to reveal just a few light fingernail impressions. Structurally the guitar looks as if it just came off Contreras work bench; the neck is in perfect condition, and the soundboard is not caving at all. No cracks that I can see. The finish on the soundboard has a beautiful golden patina. Vintage and collectable.
