HILL GUITAR COMPANY – Signature – Cedar Doubletop – 2009

2009, USA. Cedar/Nomex/Spruce doubletop fan braced soundboard, Indian rosewood back and sides, Ruck style soundports, raised fingerboard, french polished shellac finish, 650 mm. scale, 51 mm. nut, Sloan “Stippled” tuners with ebony buttons, truss rod. The “double top” as practiced by Dammann, Wagner, and others is a sandwich of Nomex, an ultra light cell structure, between two thin layers of cedar and spruce. This makes an extremely light sound board, but is also quite stiff, in a good way. Outwardly it appears just like a normal cedar sound board. The guitar is braced fairly traditionally, with a pattern similar to Miguel Rodriguez. The result is an instrument with outstanding projection. The tone is extremely attractive, sweet and full, with a pleasing hint of sparkle. This is a fabulous instrument by any definition, a compelling combination of beauty and power. The Ruck style sound ports also ensure that the guitar impresses the player as much as the audience. This guitar is structurally in perfect condition. Some signs of use have it priced at only $5,000.
