DANIEL GIL de AVALLE – Cedar and Madagascar – 2004

2004, Granada.  Solid cedar soundboard, elegantly figured Madagascar rosewood back and sides, 650 mm scale, 52 mm nut width, french polished finish.  Bought  by the sole owner directly from Daniel Gil de Avalle in Granada.  Health issues  are the only reason for parting with it.  This luthier is extending the tradition of the Granada school of producing responsive instruments with sparkling clarity.  Cedar it is, and with a ringing fullness of tone that sings.  Exceptionally even response, and fine projection.  The visual aesthetic is enhanced with intricate half herringbone purfling around the soundboard, back and sides.  A small crack in the back and small center seam separation have been expertly restored by Luis Fernandez de Cordoba. Hiscox case.  We compared this guitar with a 2012 Antonio Marin Montero, now deceased dean of the Granada school, and the two were extremely close in all aural aspects.  Recently reduced, this guitar is our best value.
